While Tower of Fantasy definitely has its merits, several factors make it not worth playing in 2025.

1) Its Predatory Gacha Mechanics

The gacha system can feel punishing, with low drop rates for limited characters. Competitive play heavily favors spenders, meaning decent progression is often paywalled, frustrating F2P players.

2) Its Unpolished Gameplay

Despite numerous updates attempting to address this, the game suffers from performance issues like stutters, bloated menus, and an overwhelmingly clunky UI. The story is generic, with forgettable NPCs and inconsistent voice acting, lacking the polish of competitors like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves.

3) Its Declining Player Base

While not “dead,” the game’s population has shrunk since its 2022 peak (revenue fell from $34M in August 2022 to $9.9M in July 2024 – with it making less than a million dollars per month in July 2025). Some servers feel empty despite merges.

4) Its Empty Open World

The expansive world can feel lifeless in areas, with less engaging exploration compared to rivals. Repetitive grinding for currency and backtracking for resources can also feel tedious. They’ve definitely improved the world-feel but it’s a far cry from enjoyable.

If you dislike predatory Gacha monetization, unpolished gameplay, severe powercreep, or low server activity, Tower of Fantasy isn’t worth your time in 2025. Consider alternatives like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves for a more refined experience. Or wait for their new game Neverness to Everness.
